Rules

Objective:
Entry-level Low Cost Rimfire Benchrest Rifle Competition with structured match format. Submittal of scores for participation in the ‘e-matches’ of RimfireCentral.com is secondary objective, with scores to be submitted monthly by individual sh ooter or match director to the appropriate RFC match thread.

Target:
USBR 25-bullseye, furnished by either match director or contestant, (must be the approved USBR target). Entry fee ($1.00 or tbd) but less than $2.00, just to cover the cost of targets, fee waived if sh ooter provides own targets.

Frequency of Matches:
Shoot once monthly but only 10 per year. May also have a ‘warm-up’ match on alternate bi-weekly basis.

  3. 25 Yard Semi-Auto
  4. 50 yard Semi-Auto
  5. 25 and 50-yard Vintage Smallbore

Target (Scoped):
Use the official USBR target (Attachment 1): Up to four targets per match per Class. For each target, sh oot 25 sh ots for score, sighters are unlimited.

Target (Iron Sight):
Use the official NRA A23/5 50 yard 3-position target, up to four targets per patch, 20 rounds for score, possible 200-20X. Sighters are unlimited.

Scoring:
Scored by match director or his delegate using the NRA scoring plug and scoring guidelines sh own in attachment 2.

Rules

  1. Ammunition must be rimfire: .22 sh ort, long, long rifle, .22 Magnum. or one of the .17 caliber rimfires.
  2. There is no limit on weight of the rifle.
  3. There are no restrictions on scope power.
  4. Triggers may be adjusted to a light pull, but must be safe.
  5. Shot from bench, over sandbags, sh ot bags, rice bags or any old bag. Use a tripod, bipod, a block of wood or a rock for your front rest. A bunny ear or rabbit ear sandbag is recommended for buttstock support.
  6. One piece rests and bipods are allowed. BUT: No rest attached to the bench or capable of "return to battery" would be allowed. If you can push the rifle forward after recoil, and the crosshairs are back on the aiming point, it is a “return to battery” rest.
  7. A maximum of 20 minutes is allowed to fire all sighter sh ots and one sh ot at each of the 25 record bulls. All matches will be sh ot outdoors during Spring, Summer and Fall. December, January, February and March matches may be sh ot on indoor 50 foot or 25 yard ranges. Indoor scores will be posted in a separate score bulletin.

The official United States Bench Rest (USBR) target is used. A 25 yard and a 50 yard match is sh ot each month. (Both sh ot on the same target.) If targets are not sh ot under match conditions, the sh ooter will assume responsibility for accurate measurement of the distance, from the front edge of the bench or firing line to the face of the target.

Supplemental Rules

25 yard UNLIMITED
1. Weight: There is no limit on weight of the rifle or pistol.
2. Sights: There are no restrictions on scope power.
3. Triggers may be adjusted to a light pull, but must be safe.
4. Ammunition must be Rimfire: .22 Magnum and .17 HMR are allowed.
5. Rests: One piece rests are allowed. Rests must not be secured to the bench.

50 Yard Unlimited
RULES: Same as the 25 yd. Unlimited Division, but at 50yds:
1. From the front edge of the bench to the face of the target: 50 yards.
2. Ammuntion must not be modified in any way.
3. One piece rests are allowed. Rests must not be secured to the bench.

25 Yard Semi-Auto
RULES:
1. Same as the 25 yd. Unlimited Division: But restricted to Semi-Autos
2. One piece rests are allowed. Rests must not be secured to the bench.
No ‘return to battery’ rests.

50 yard Semi-Auto
RULES:
1. Same as the 50 yd. Unlimited Division: But restricted to Semi-Autos.
2. One piece rests are allowed. Rests must not be secured to the bench.
No ‘return to battery’ rests.

25 and 50-yard Vintage Smallbore
RULES:
1. Same as the 25 yd. Unlimited Division but intended for vintage military trainer and target type rifles.
2. Stocks must be essentially in ‘as-issued’ configuration, after-market triggers are allowed, no limit on scopes or ammo.

50-Yard Iron sight, NRA target
Rules:
1. Target is the NRA A23/5, shot from benchrest using any non-magnifying open or iron sights. Aperture sights are allowed.
2 Course of fire is 5 rounds at each of 4 record bullseyes for a possible total of 200-2x. Scoring will be done using NRA .22 scoring plug.

Factory Sporter and Box Stock
25 yd .22 FACTORY SPORTER
Same basic rules as UNLIMITED with the following additions
1. Rifle Value: May not exceed the “NiB” (New in Box) BlueBook value of $500.00. If you are not sure of the value of your rifle: Shoot it anyway. We will tell you if it meets the $500.00 rule.
2. Weight must not exceed 8.5 lbs with scope or iron sights attached.
3. Must have the original factory barrel, and stock. Butt stock may be cut back to fit a Lady or Junior sh ooter. Barrel must not be rechambered or cut back. Recrowning is allowed.
4. Free floating the barrel and glass/pillar bedding is allowed. Upward pressure on the barrel with sh ims/glass is allowed. Tuners at the muzzle or screw type tuners in the stock are not allowed. Any labor charge by a gunsmith will not be included in the $500.00 limit.
5. Triggers must be safe. Trigger tuning is allowed. Aftermarket triggers or parts are allowed if the cost of trigger/parts, when added to the blue book vaulue of the rifle, does not exceed $500.00. Any labor charge by a gunsmith will not be included in the $500.00 limit.
6. Scope sights will be limited to not more than 24 power. No limit on the cost of the scope, or iron sights. Diopter lenses are allowed in iron sights.
7. Rests: Elevation and windage adjustments on rests must not be moved after the first sighter sh ot. A bipod may be attached to the rifle. It will not be included in the 8.5 lb. weight limit.
8. Ammunition Value: 22 Long Rifle Rimfire ammunition must not exceed $8.00 per box of 50 or $80.00 per brick of 500, before transportation or taxes.
9. If a rifle fits the rules for more than one rifle class, you may enter the rifle in each of those classes. Before you start a target, you write the rifle class on the target and enter that score in that rifle class. Do not enter that score in more than one match. You may sh oot a maximum four targets per month in each rifle class where the rifle fits the rules. Post your best score(s) in the correct match thread for the month.
10. Box Stock Rifles: The rifle must meet the ,22 Factory Sporter rules, and may not exceed the “NiB” (New in Box) BlueBook value of $500.00: No modifications to the rifle, the trigger, or the bedding. The rifle must be as it came out of the box from the factory. If you sh oot a (BOX STOCK) rifle in this class: At the begining of the third line of your score entry: Type (BOX STOCK).

Protocol and Reporting of Scores

1. Before starting a target, shooter must declare the class and match being shot. Write the rifle class on the target and enter that score only in that rifle class. Do not enter that score in more than one match. You may sh oot a maximum four targets per month in each rifle class where the rifle fits the rules. Post your best score(s) in the correct match thread for the month.
2. You may sh oot more than one rifle each month, up to four targets per rifle per record attempt each month.
3. Junior Shooters: The minimum age of a young person allowed in these competitions will be determined by the parent. A Junior sh ooter is a young persons who has not reached the age of 18. If you are a Junior: Type (Age 14): Or whatever your age, note “Junior”at the end of the first line of your score report.
4. If you have a RimfireCentral screen name: Put that at the end of the first line. :

Feel free to post details of your equipment, weather reports and excuses. Posting encouragement and a little kidding as we have done in the past would be a good thing too.

Format Example:
249-15x John Doe. Columbia, South Carolina . (RedNeck)

Sunny day. 5 mph wind: 3 to 5 o’clock.

Scores shot from December to March may be shot INDOORS at 25 yards.
So if you shoot a 25 yard target indoors, enter (INDOORS) at the beginning of the third line.

USBR TARGET DISCRIPTION
The USBR targets are printed on heavy tagboard paper. The fibers in this paper are sh ort and the bullets print clean holes without tearing.
Target size: 14" x 16".
Three sighter bulls and 25 record bulls.
10 ring is .100"
4 ring is 2.050"

AND: You can get 28 five sh ot groups on one target.
