Arlington Sportsman's Club Range Rules and Regulations
Safety begins with YOU!

Club Rules
  1. Badges must be worn by members at all times when using Club facilities.
  2. No firearms will be loaded at any time while on Club property, except when the shooter is at a designated firing position.
  3. No shooting of any firearms or arrows except in specified shooting areas.
  4. Ear and eye protection should be worn when shooting any firearms on Club property.
  5. No hunting allowed on or adjacent to Club property.
  6. No person under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be allowed on the activity ranges.
  7. No alcoholic beverages may be consumed on the Club property.
  8. All gun muzzles must be pointed down range when they are being loaded (except for muzzleloaders which must be pointed up).
  9. No obscene or vulgar language will be tolerated at any time.
  10. The shooter’s finger must not be in the trigger guard or on the trigger until the shooter is ready to shoot.
  11. When someone is down range or in front of the firing line, all firearms must be removed from the firing line, placed in appropriate racks and have the actions open. Firearms are not to be handled when someone is down range. Handguns must be unloaded, have the action open, and magazines clear of the gun.
  12. Guns must never be pointed over the earth backstop at anytime and are to be handled in a safe manner at all times.
  13. Junior members and guests must be supervised at all times by a Senior Member. Children must be kept behind the red firing line on the rifle and pistol ranges and behind the skeet and trap fields and behind the sporting clays and five stand stations.
  14. Guest privileges may be extended to the same guest only once per year. (This applies to guests in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area). Members must be present with the guest. Member and guest must shoot on the same range so the member may be sure the guest follows all Club safety rules.
  15. Guests may shoot only if the Club members do not have to wait.
  16. A member will not allow guests or acquaintances to use the Club facilities without being present with the guest or acquaintance. Do not give lock combinations or gate card keys to nonmembers at any time.
  17. The conduct of each member shall be such that it will not cause injury to any person, or harm the Club in any way. Do not abuse or destroy Club property. Targets may not be hung on posts or supporting rails on any ranges.
  18. Scheduled Club matches will take precedence over all other shooting until matches have been completed. Check with the Range Officer or the Match Director.
  19. Do not put ammunition, gun powder, aerosol cans or flammable liquids in the trash barrels. Take home any ammo which does not fire when shot.
  20. Keep all ranges clean. Put burnable trash in a barrel. Take all other trash home. Do not put trash in barrels marked “HULLS”.
  21. Vehicles must obey the posted speed limits on Club property and park only in designated areas. The maximum speed limit on the Club property is 15 mph and 10 mph by the skeet fields.
  22. Members will abide by the Constitution, By-laws and all range rules. Copies are available upon request, and posted on our website.
  23. Persons that do not renew their membership and continue to use the Club facilities will be charged with trespassing.
  24. Instructions from the Match Director or Range Officer must be obeyed promptly.
  25. All shooting must be at appropriate targets. No shooting of bottles, cans, boxes or any item not an appropriate target.
  26. Shooting time is from sunrise to sunset except on the lighted skeet fieldswhen all shooting will stop at 9:00 P.M.
  27. Every car entering Club property must use their own gate card key unless the gate is locked open for a Club function. NO tailgating onto Club property is allowed. A record is kept of every member entering Club property in case of an incident.
Shotgun Rules
  1. No person is to open and operate a skeet or trap field until that person has been trained by an experienced operator.
  2. No shells will be placed in any part of a gun until the shooter is actually on a designated shooting pad. No more than two shells may be loaded in a gun at any time.
  3. Guns will be pointed to the center of the fields when loaded and actions will be open when not in a shooting position.
  4. The maximum permissible load on skeet fields 2, 3 and 4 and any trap fields is 3 ¼-1 1/8 of No. 7 ½ shot.
  5. Skeet field #1 is available for organized matches and events only, casual shooting is not allowed. The maximum permissible load on skeet fields #1 and #5 is 3-1 1/8 of No. 9 shot.
  6. Shooting is allowed at clay pigeons or pattern board only.
  7. No buckshot or slugs are to be fired at the pattern board. These may be shot on the 25 and 50 yard pistol ranges.
  8. NSSA, NSCA and ATA safety rules will apply at all times.
  9. All shooters must fill out the skeet/trap log book and place full payment in the drop box. Checks are preferred to cash but exact change must be used. Cost per round is posted in Penny’s Parlor.
  10. White targets are to be used only for night shooting.
  11. At the conclusion of shooting, the throwing arms are to be released to remove mainspring tension.
  12. Machines are to be turned off at the field as well as at the main breaker box.
  13. Release cords are to be coiled and returned to the low house of the skeet field that was used. The trap release cord is to be returned to the trap house. The doors and windows to the houses are to be closed by the shooters last using the field.
  14. Be sure to turn off the lights and secure the building.
  15. Place all empty target boxes in the wire cages and pick up your hulls. Please flatten out boxes before putting them in the wire cages.
Rifle and Pistol Rules
  1. Open the action of all guns when brought to the range. Action will remain open except when firing.
  2. You must sign the registration book at the rifle range before you start shooting rifles or pistols and record the time when you leave the range.
  3. Observers must stay behind the red line on all rifle and pistol ranges when shooters are firing or matches are in progress.
  4. Tracer-incendiary, high explosive and armor piercing ammo are prohibited.
  5. No fully automatic guns allowed on the range. (Machine guns, sub-machine guns etc).
  6. No loaded guns allowed behind or in front of the firing line.
  7. No shots are to be fired at any part of the wood baffles, poles or target frames and supports.
  8. Shooting is allowed only in the baffled areas or through the ports at the 200 yard range.
  9. No firing of any rifle or pistol except on the rifle or pistol range. If there is more than one person firing, they must be on the same firing line.
  10. Always declare a cease fire, clear the line and turn on the red lights before going down range to check targets.
  11. No handling of firearms during a cease fire if a person is in front of the firing line.
  12. Keep the muzzle of your gun down range or in the up position with the action open when coming to or leaving the firing line. All guns will be removed from the firing line during target changes.
  13. ALL SHOTS MUST IMPACT THE BACKSTOP BERMS.
  14. There will be a cease fire on the hour and the half hour for ten minutes to check and replace targets.
  15. There will be a time limit on the bench rest of one hour if all benches are occupied and shooters are waiting. Change times will be on the hour.
  16. Targets will be placed so that no portion of the target overlaps the wood frame.
  17. All firearms that have not been sighted in should be fired on the 25 yard range to align the sights before shooting on longer ranges.
  18. No cross firing from one shooting lane to another lane.
  19. Rules covering holsters, metal targets and pistol matches are posted at the registration book and in the Range Officers building.
  20. Handguns in holsters must be unloaded except when the shooter is under direct supervision of a Match Director. You are not allowed to draw handguns from shoulder holsters or holsters that cause the handgun to sweep the firing line.
  21. Handguns may be drawn from holsters at the concealed carry firing line or the the normal firing line if there are no more than two other shooters on the range, and a Range Officer is in attendance.
  22. Personal metal targets must be Club approved. The shooter must be 15 yards or more from the target when shooting. Eye protection is mandatory when shooting at metal targets.
Muzzle Loaders Rules
  1. All rifle and pistol rules apply to blackpowder and muzzleloader shooting in addition to the rules below.
  2. NO SMOKING WITHIN TEN FEET OF THE FIRING LINE.
  3. All powder must be covered at all times.
  4. All guns shall be capped or primed only at the firing line while pointed down range.
  5. Power shall be loaded from a powder measure only. No powder shall be loaded directly from a can or powder horn.
  6. Long guns shall be pointed straight up or down range during matches and shall be placed at the loading bench pointed up and shall be unloaded during cease fire periods. Pistols and revolvers must be unloaded during cease fire.
Archery Rules
  1. No hunting points (broad heads) will be shot on Club property except at designated broad head targets.
  2. Arrows will be shot from designated shooting positions and at their respective targets.
  3. Use only paper or Styrofoam target faces.
  4. Targets are not to be relocated except by the Archery Director or Range Officer.
  5. Do not shoot when someone is forward of your shooting position.
  6. When retrieving arrows from behind a target, place your bow in front of the target face to let someone know you are behind the target.
  7. Cross bows will not be loaded until the shooter is on the shooting station. Cross bows can only be shot from the 25 and 50 yard pistol ranges. Broadheads may be shot at broadhead targets only.

ONCE A ROUND IS FIRED YOU CAN’T TAKE IT BACK! BE CAREFUL!
